The Challenge
After searching for years for their last and final apartment in NYC, architect Morgan Rolontz and his wife and business partner Randie stumbled upon an estate condition former live and work Dance Studio that belonged to ballet legend, Raoul Gelabert. The Maisonette was in such a state of disrepair, it had not been touched in fifty years. It was the perfect challenge for Morgan and Randie. After over 30 years of renovating and building places for their clients, it was an exciting opportunity for Morgan and Randie to renovate their final home. They knew the prewar Maisonette had an abundance of potential because of its good bones, double story Great Room and high ceilings throughout. It also has its own street entrance in addition to the attended building’s lobby entrance. Nothing could be saved. They took the Maisonette down to its shell, even removing the dilapidated staircase and began the rebuild. One year later, after redesigning the layout, adding modern amenities like central air and a music system, lots of storage, a plant wall and daring colors throughout, they have the home of their dreams and beyond.
